Jets Visit Oakland but Forget to Bring Defense

Well Jets fans, we got a taste of the same old Jets this past Sunday and it tasted like crap!!   In each of the last 3 games the Jets had shown elements of awesomeness but they also showed that they have some work to do. Luckily we are 2-1 and not 1-2.  What the heck is going on with this team?  With Baltimore and New England as our next opponents we hope they get their acts together and come out on top.

Frankly, I am still pissed the Jets lost.  We had that game, well some of it.  I hate going into work after a Jets loss, all tweaked out knowing my beloved Jets have failed me and left us with a miserable Monday to deal with.  Monday’s are bad enough!

Seriously, how does Sanchez throw for career yardage and lose the game? I think the Jets going for it on 4th and goal was a questionable call with a minute to go.  If it was me, I’d kick the field goal and try to recover the onside kick.  Maybe that’s safer but at least you get a chance.  Of course they could have scored the touchdown and broke our hearts another way but we’ll never know.

Note to the NFL: If you have a running back that hasn’t had a career day, just jot down when the Jets are on your schedule and be ready, your time has come.  Where was the Jets Defense against the run? It was like an error 404 Not found.

My prediction for next week versus Baltimore is  Jets 24 – Baltimore 17.  Think I am crazy, feel free to leave a comment!

World Reflects on 9-11 & Jets Wrangle Cowboys!

Copyright New York Jets

A bit late I know, but it sure was an interesting week leading up to Sunday’s 9-11 Memorial and the start of the NFL season. New terror alerts caused an uneasiness across the country affecting New Yorker’s  in particular but it was met with resolve and determination by all Americans, to not have our plans altered by these threats.

For me that included a weekend drive to upstate NY that required crossing over three bridges in order to celebrate my Mom’s 60th birthday, which I needed to get to regardless of any possible threat or face certain death anyway.

We left for home early Sunday morning on 9-11, listening to the memorial on the radio, wondering the things you wonder when anything can happen but not worried enough to do anything less than what you set out to do.  We made it home with no issues and my wife and I are so thankful to live in such a great country.

I love America and I love all that comes with it, good and bad.  I talked about the bad, now the good.  FOOTBALL!

At 1PM EST, the NFL season went into full blast with games played across the nation.  Prior to kick-off, I made sure all my fantasy line-ups were set, visited the beer distributor and made myself comfy for a long day and night of Football!

And what a great Football day and an awesome Football night if you’re a Jets fan, although it did not start out that way.  The Jets and Cowboys faced off last Sunday and you could just tell it was going to be one of those kinds of Jets games.  The game started with President Bush somehow rigging the coin toss, giving Dallas the ball first.

Dallas went on to drive right down the field and made the Jets D look more like the Nets D, unable to stop anything.  Dez Bryant was looking mighty fine early, luckily he tweaked something in his leg which made him less of a target throughout the game.

Sanchez looked awful the first few series but the team remained composed and ready to strike back.  Sanchez had touchdown passes to his favorite target Dustin Keller and perhaps a new favorite, Plaxico Burress.

Add some great Defensive plays which included a blocked punt for a TD and a game changing interception by the only inhabitant on Revis Island,  gave us a chance to use Nick Folk, formerly of Dallas, against them leaving them wondering what the Folk just happened.

I gotta be honest, I thought the game was over going into the 4th quarter, actually passed out for about 10 minutes only to wake up seconds before the Revis pick and the Folk kick! What a game!

Sometimes being a Jets fan is truly rewarding and I anticipate many more nail-bitters, hair-splitters and stomach-churners this year.

I just want to thank the NFL and the Jets for taking care of business and making sure there was Football this year and hopefully every year for the rest of my life.  On a day of remembrance we felt the sadness of the loss of nearly 3,000 American brothers and sisters, but on the same day we felt the greatness of America which made me feel even prouder to be an American.

God bless the USA and all of the men and women in support of the mission.  Until you all come home!

The 2011 NFL Season Is Here!

This is my most favorite part of the year.  At this point, the Mets are completely out of it, the Yankees are right in it, which is another recurring theme in my life, but the freedom of knowing your baseball team is focusing on next year, allows me to focus 100% on all things Green.

I love the Jets, but I tread carefully.  Every year we have the same hopes and dreams, which for me involves the following: beating the Pats, the Fins, the Bills, dominating the AFC East and hopefully handling business with the rest of the schedule.  Now will this happen?  That’s what we are all going to find out.

This year the Jets made alot of moves in the off-season, releasing Braylon and his beard, letting go of Brad Smith(kinda pissed about that), adding the disco dancing, gun blasting Plex and Derrick Mason should help the Sanchize along the way.

Shonn Greene should have an epic year because I passed on him in all my Fantasy Drafts and I’m excited to see how much Marc has matured now that he has 2 years under his belt.

The NFL season starts tonight and I could not be more excited.  Beer in the fridge, food in the store(gotta go shopping) and 3 Fantasy Football  teams to enhance the NFL experience.  I do love this time of year!

Always positive but eternally wary.  Let’s go Jets!

Jets Win in Comeback Fashion vs Lions

Another Sunday has come and gone but at least the Jets showed some fight and squeaked out a comeback versus the lowly Lions.  I was rather upset with Gang Green early in the Detroit game and quite frankly I pretty much gave up hope as to the Jets chances of winning with under 4 minutes to go down 10 points.

I love being wrong when it comes to the Jets.  I enjoy the days where I curse this team and their lackluster performances versus traditionally crappy teams.  Why do the Jets always play down to their competition?  I’ve been asking myself this question for over 20 years and I still do not have an answer. I’ve come to the determination that it’s what the Jets do.

It’s tough to maintain a positive mental attitude when rooting for the Jets because there are just too many memories filled with Doom and Gloom.  Is it wrong to talk smack about the team you love? I don’t think so if it gets your frustrations out.

There was not much of a game to talk about. The Jets kept accruing penalty yards and making uneducated plays.  A few nice grabs by Dustin Keller kept us in the game. It was great to see a few long pass plays from Sanchez and it was even better that I started Sanchez in my Fantasy league and he did better than projected.

I want to believe in the Jets, yesterday spoke volumes to me as a fan and I am hopeful we take this momentum into the Browns game next week.  Go Jets!

NY Jets Trick Fans on Halloween

The scariest thing I saw all day on Halloween was actually the Jets game.

All week long I had been stressing about not being able to get the game due to the dispute between Fox and Cablevision.  I tried installing an HD Antennae to no avail and just when I had about given up, the dispute was over and the Jets would be playing on Fox, on Halloween.

We should have known that the Jets would suck playing on this day of mischief and trickery.  They had 2 weeks off which was enough time to make Super Bowl plans but throughout the course of the week the Jets forgot a few things, like how to catch, where the sidelines were, what down it is and how much time is on the clock.

Call me crazy but WTF! Show some emotion after a bye week.  Don’t let the Offense curl up and die leaving the Defense to keep the game close.  I think Sanchez did his job for the most part, putting the ball where it needed to be but there were too many drops and lost opportunities as a result.

Thank god I had 5 pounds of candy to console me this week and I hope Rex and the Jets get it together ASAP.

They NY Jets Escape from Denver with Comeback Victory

Yesterday was a good day.  Due to circumstances beyond my control, I found myself at the local Applebee’s watching the G-Men play the early game after being kicked out of my house due to the Cablevision and Fox-5 NY dispute. Don’t f$*k with NY Sports, how lame to punish all of the fans, but whatever.

Applebee’s was great, the beer was flowing as it should and we forced the manager to give us the Wing special because the bar was overflowing and we could not get a seat because everyone in my town went out yesterday. Cablevision strikes again…

While I don’t hate the Giants, I typically use their games to do laundry, play a round of Call of Duty, call a distant friend, pretty much anything to fill the gap between the Jets game. I have no G-Men on my fantasy teams so I was not really vested in the game.

However, I must admit it was good to see the Giants win yesterday, but it was hard to watch 3 of my fantasy players get concussed throughout the day including; DeShawn Jackson, Todd Heap and Chris Cooley which really hurting my team’s out put this week and it looks like next week is not looking to likely for these dudes. To the waiver wire!

Anyway, the best part of the day came when the beloved NY Jets pull a victory straight out of Denver’s ass.  Seriously, when does anything ever go right for the Jets?

All day the refs were calling Offensive pass interference on the Jets which really killed the momentum on those drives.  When we finally got a call on a 4th down prayer toss to Holmes, it felt HOLY.  Like GOD said, here you go Jets, if you can hold on, you can have this game.

Hold on we did and the NY Jets are the Kings of NY in the early 2010 NFL Season.  It feels nice right now but I know how fleeting this feeling can be.  Cherish is, hold it, put it in a box and let’s pray for more.

The NY Jets are a force to be reckoned with and now that God is on our side it’s going to be hard knocks for the rest of the the teams on the Jets schedule.

-Amen

Week 5 – Jets Fleece Favre/Vikes to Win 29-20

What a wild Monday Night at the New Meadowlands Stadium. Watching the game from home, I was able to stay dry but I did have to fight off periods of boredom while watching the Jets kick 5 field goals over the first half of the game.

The Jets scored just enough points to make it interesting and at the same time giving Favre and his Vikings a chance to win. Typical Jets…

However, the rain and lightning could not stop the Jets from completing their mission. It was a close game that really should not have been.  The Jets had TONS of opportunities and it looked like Favre was actually giving them the game by fumbling 2x (Favre holds the NFL record for fumbles) but the Jets could not muster more than 3 points off of each turnover.

Sure glad Nick Folk can kick a good ball in the rain.  Sure glad the Sanchize retained his turnover-less streak through 5 games and that he kept his poise during a rather dramatic 4th quarter that left 2 mins on the clock with Favre ready to drive.  Very happy the DEFENSE came up with that huge pick to seal the game.

All in all it was another great game, another great victory and it was nice being able to sleep soundly last evening. Thank you Jets!!

Week 4 – Jets Win Over Bumbling Bills

From the moment the Bills decided to defer the opening kick-off to the Jets, it was obvious they were going to be in store for a LONG afternoon of smash mouth Jets football.  It started with a nice kick-off return followed by Sanchez and Tomlinson systematically driving down the field for a touchdown on the opening drive. NICE!

The next Bills possession the Jets forced a turnover but we didn’t manage to put up any points on the turnover after we missed a very manageable field goal.  We had to wait a little while for the Jets to power up their engines and soon enough we were operating at full power and the route was on.

What a great day for Tomlinson who is certainly rejuvenated and appearing to enjoy himself in Green, which totally works for me.  Ladanian had his first rushing game over 100 yards since 2008 and he had 2 touchdowns on the afternoon.

Let’s not forget completely about Shonn Greene who managed his first 100 yard game of the season and very nearly broke his first touchdown run of the year.  Ground and Pound was working to perfection but then sprinkle a little Schottenheimer magic and the passing game started to open up, WIDE.

Sanchez found Dustin Keller for another 2 touchdows this week.  Keller is really a great TE and it’s awesome to watch the chemistry developing between the two.  Braylon Edwards had a few catches and one for a Touchdown.

At this point in the early football season the Jets are 3-1 and 3-0 in the Division.  Hopefully we maintain this momentum as we head home to face Favre and the Vikings.

Week 3 – Jets Net Fins and Hold on to Win!

Whew! We’re 2-1 after a agita filled 31-23 victory against the Miami Dolphins.  A thoroughly offensive performance with both teams putting up 400 yards it left us asking where was the defense?

I saw some run defense but our secondary desperately needs a healthy Revis and for Kyle Wilson to get in the game. It was great to see Jason Taylor get a sack against his former team.  I am sure Bill Parcells felt that in the booth.

Thankfully, Sanchez, Keller, Edwards and Tomlinson provided enough firepower to outlast the Dolphins and we are fueling up for Buffalo. The Jets are roaring into a city near you and we’re calling you out!

It was refreshing to see the Jets take an opening drive down the field for a touchdown and when we went up 14-0, I felt a sense of calm for about a minute then a wave of uneasiness forced me to watch the game from bed as the Dolphins stormed back scoring 17 unanswered points.

While I was watching the game a stat of all the greatest Jets v. Dolphins came across the screen and sure enough another shootout was in progress and you can’t turn off a Jets v. Dolphins game.

Special Teams played a huge factor in this game with a blocked punt and some great returns from Brad Smith that pushed the game in the Jets favor.

If you watched “Hard Knocks”, Rex Ryan predicted games like this one and to see his vision play through to a hard fought victory was inspiring. The Jets are real.  Enjoy the flight!!

Week 2 – Jets beat Pats 28-14

This past Sunday’s game the NY Jets took a positive mental step forward this season with an EPIC victory over the New England Patriots.  Mark Sanchez and the rest of the crew were up to the task this week and boy was it a task.

Watching the game, you got that same old feeling that Brady was going to go off on the Jets as they held the ball for the majority of the 1st QTR running 20+ plays to the Jets who only managed a 3-and-out.

Panic was creeping in until I got a text from my Dad, My old man texted me the obvious “The Jets stink and Will Not Win”.  I was a bit upset because it was the 1st QTR but, I do tend to believe him as his year’s of experience dealing with Gang Green has taught me well.

Then I got another text from my old man that said: “Now that that’s out of the way, the Jets will take it in the second half”  That’s more like it I thought as I watched the Jets march down the field and tie up the game, only to give up a big drive on the following possession allowing the the Pats to score and make it a 14-7 game.

This is usually when a Jets fan knows that there is something in the air and it might not be your day.  BUT this is when the Jets, knowing they get the ball back in the second half, drive down the field with under a minute and score 3 to get some momentum back and it worked.

The Jets DEFENSE stifled Tom Brady the entire second half. Nothing worked for them which was great to watch on TV.  We picked Brady off 2x and we got a few calls to boot which is exactly what you need to win.  Combine that with the fact that Sanchez had his best day as a Jet and things start to look a little better.

Check out the Post Game Rex Ryan Interview

The alarm was sounded on Week 1 and the Jets answered the call! See you next week Dolphins!
